On 5th February, 1915, the 3rd Coldstream Guards of 4 Brigade, 2nd Division, moved into trenches at Cuinchy near La Bassée where they remained until relieved on 7th February when they marched back to billets at Bethune. At 2.10pm on the 6th February, they made a successful attack against enemy positions in the Cuinchy brickstacks and captured a German trench. George Rumsey died from wounds on 9th February and it is likely that he was wounded at some time during this period in the trenches. |
